Alleged Gang Member Arrested After Stealing Rifle From FBI Vehicle

Federal authorities have arrested a suspected gang member accused of breaking into an FBI vehicle and stealing a rifle during a chaotic incident in Minneapolis, drawing national attention to the risks faced by law-enforcement officers during civil unrest.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the suspect — identified as 33-year-old Raul Gutierrez — allegedly smashed into a government vehicle and removed a rifle along with other equipment belonging to federal agents.
Investigators say Gutierrez is an alleged member of the street gang Latin Kings and has a prior criminal history, including felony convictions that legally bar him from possessing firearms.
The theft reportedly occurred during unrest in north Minneapolis following a confrontation involving federal immigration agents. Authorities say the vehicle was left behind after agents withdrew from the area while crowds gathered at the scene.
Surveillance footage and investigative leads helped authorities identify the suspect. Federal prosecutors say he later admitted taking the rifle from the vehicle, although he claimed the weapon was later stolen from him by other individuals.
Officials stressed that attacks on federal agents and the theft of government weapons will be prosecuted aggressively. FBI leaders said there is a “clear line” between lawful protest and criminal acts such as vandalism or theft of federal property.
Gutierrez now faces federal charges including theft of government property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. If convicted, he could face significant prison time as prosecutors pursue the case in federal court.
